February and March Programs

Wednesday, February 22 - Caddo Parish School Board member Dottie Bell is making an encore appearance. Dottie recently put forth a resolution for the School Board to ask the State Legislature to bring a half-cent sales tax increase to voters. That resolution is scheduled to be voted on the day before this meeting.

Wednesday, February 29 - Northwest Louisiana’s Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell is scheduled to speak. He has served on the LPSC commission for 10 years and was just recently selected to be its chairman.

Wednesday, March 7 - The Director of Community Development for the City of Shreveport, Bonnie Moore, will speak. When invited she said, “We are embracing a couple of wonderful initiatives that I would love to share.” Should be interesting and informative.

Wednesday, March 14 - Chairman of the Shreveport City Council Sam Jenkins will be our guest, He and Rose McCulloch have been at odds with the rest of the Council regarding the need for an external audit. It will be interesting to hear his point of view.

Wednesday, March 21 - The Sex Offender Coordinator for NW Louisiana Bill Tuggle will be our guest speaker. This is sort of the flip side of the Gingerbread House story which is coming soon also.

Wednesday, March 28 - The Times reporter extraordinaire Margaret Martin will speak first about her favorite subject “travel” but then be available to talk about some of the phenomenal stories she has been involved with through the years.

Welcome, Vincent Campanella!

Celebrated Shreveport restaurateur Vincent Campanella spoke of his early life in Sicily during WWII and his entry into the hotel and restaurant business.  Mr. Campanella emphasized the impact on himself as well as fellow countrymen of the time of American generosity.  The first part of his amazing tale ended with he and British wife Margaret finding their way to the United States via Canada and heading towards Louisiana.  His career as a leading Shreveport restaurateur highlights the second part of his marvelous history, Wednesday, January 18.
